Yes to Homes! Coalition’s Bills Introduced This Week!
As the legislative session begins in earnest, the Yes to Homes! Coalition, in partnership with our legislative champions, hosted a press conference to publicly announce our 2025 agenda! Many of our coalition partners were in attendance, and you can read up on what happened here. As you’re aware, housing is simply too unaffordable today and our state is facing a significant housing shortage—Minnesota is 100,000 homes short of where we need to be to ensure every person has a stable, affordable place to live.
This year we have a full agenda including seven bills that have either been introduced or will be over the next week:
- Bill 1: MN Starter Home Act
- Bill 2: Increased Housing Options Act
- Bill 3: Reducing Rent Inflation Act
- Bill 4: People Over Parking Act
- Bill 5: Freedom in Home Design Act
- Bill 6: Condo Defect Reform Act
- Bill 7: Ending Exclusionary Zoning Act
Taken together, these bills will make it easier for our state to increase the housing options we need to grow and prosper.
Several of these bills will be heard in Housing Committees in both the House and Senate this week: March 11-13. There are two immediate actions you can take to support our efforts:
- Email your lawmakers to encourage them to support these important bills. It is crucial that our state senators and representatives hear from their constituents about these important pieces of legislation.
- Call all members of the House Housing Finance and Policy Committee and the Senate Housing and Homelessness Prevention Committee between now and Thursday March 13th to ask for their support.
By passing this legislation, we can make housing reform a reality and ensure Minnesota remains a place where every Minnesotan, from every neighborhood and every income level, has a roof over their head.
