2025 Subgrant Awardees Announced

In July, Neighbors for More Neighbors announced a subgrant opportunity open to organizations that are involved in work that supported at least one of the following two goals:

  1. Support newer groups outside of Saint Paul and Minneapolis who are working to remove barriers to housing abundance in local or statewide pushes.

  2. Support housing justice work anywhere in Minnesota with a focus on tenants' rights.

We appreciate all the applications we received for this subgrant opportunity. Originally, Neighbors for More Neighbors planned to award a total of $10,000, but due to the high quality of the applications received, we are proud to announce four subgrant awards totaling $20,000 to the following organizations:

Housing in Action

Housing in Action (HIA) is a community-centered nonprofit based in North Minneapolis that uses stable homes to build strong communities, and uses strong communities to advocate for an equitable housing system. The mission of Housing in Action is to lead the fight for housing justice so that all people have a safe, stable, and dignified place to live.

Subgrant award will help to fund in-person meetings for a full year that engage in housing policy in and out of Housing in Action. These meetings inform how Housing in Action represents the voices of the residents they work with.

Housing Justice League

Housing Justice League (HJL) is a grassroots coalition of nonprofit organizations that seek to advance housing justice policies in Minneapolis. They are currently working on a campaign to pass TOPA and introduce Just Cause Eviction protections.

Subgrant award will help to build awareness and support for TOPA and Just Cause Eviction policies within Minneapolis. HJL efforts need to be available in multiple languages and to support emerging community leaders with lived experience of housing instability. Funding will allow them to translate their materials, provide stipends for member leaders, print translated materials, and host phonebanking events.

MNTUC (MN Tenants Unite Coalition)

MN Tenants Unite Coalition (MNTUC) is a grassroots, tenant-led group that was created through a shared value of inclusiveness to ensure all tenants have stable housing in publicly funded properties, particularly those who live in "Section 42" housing.

Subgrant funds will help recruit more low-income tenant leaders in buildings throughout all of Minnesota, with a particular focus on Greater MN, to increase the chances that lawmakers from those districts will sign their tenants' rights bills.

Saint Anthony Park Community Council

The St. Anthony Park Community Council (SAPCC) is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to creating a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable neighborhood in Saint Paul's St. Anthony Park district. SAPCC actively works to hear and uplift the diverse voices of residents, including those historically underrepresented.

Subgrant funds will help to empower low-income renters in St Anthony Park and the Twin Cities metro area by increasing awareness and understanding of tenant rights. Funding will enable translation of existing curriculum, interpretation for in-person events, and workshops.

Thank you to all organizations that applied, and congratulations to our four subgrant recipients! Further questions? Reach out to Alexa Bobyak at neighborsformoreneighbors@gmail.com.
