Complete the 2050 survey by Wednesday, September 30th Hello neighbors, In late August, the City of Minneapolis released a new community engagement survey, asking for public input on the potential changes to the upcoming Comprehensive Plan, known as Minneapolis 2050. We are asking for YOUR help to answer the 2050 survey by Wednesday, September 30th, to show City leaders that residents want more homes, of all types, for all our neighbors. Complete the 2050 Survey Why does Minneapolis 2050 matter? The 2050 Plan will set the vision for how the City approaches land use and housing, among many other topics. It will be used to guide changes in zoning and regulations that mean the difference in how feasible certain home types, like duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, 6-10 unit buildings, or 10+ unit developments, can be within City boundaries. What should I say when I fill out the survey? We need City leaders to understand that residents want change, and share which changes will have the greatest impact on more homes. You can choose up to three topics in the survey: we recommend selecting "Housing" and then the two others that matter most to you. Not sure what to say? Here are the key points: We should welcome multifamily homes in every neighborhood, and more homes along transit routes. Allowing larger, family-sized homes supports a strong public school system. Allowing small businesses to operate in residential neighborhoods makes them more walkable and charming. We can't meet our climate goals without updating our zoning rules to allow more homes and therefore better access to public transit. Saint Paul has made a lot of smart updates to their zoning code that Minneapolis should copy, like smaller lots, allowing homes to cover more of a lot, and allowing 4-6 homes per lot.
