The Starter Homes Act legalizes additional home types across all residential zones and allows more homes in existing neighborhoods near schools, jobs, and everyday amenities. Cities will be required to allow duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes in at least one-third of existing residential areas and mixed-use buildings or multifamily homes, such as apartments or condos, in at least one-third of commercial areas. Building permit approvals will be standardized to reduce delays and uncertainty for families and builders. Additionally, the Starter Homes Act provides a menu of proven tools that cities with populations over 10,000 can choose from to expand housing supply.

The Right to Renew Act ensures that renters who have abided by their lease are able to renew their lease and prevents landlords from not renewing a lease for arbitrary reasons. If a landlord does decide to terminate a lease for one of the allowed reasons, they must give renters notice of at least one full rental period before termination and provide the reason for the termination. This provides essential stability for renters, families, & communities to thrive long term.
