📜 After our Yes to Homes Package of Bills did not move forward at the end of March, a “skinny bill” was proposed to try to make a dent in city control this year. After much negotiation, the bill went to a special hearing after the deadline in the Senate State and Local Gov (a big feat in itself) and, unfortunately, the vote did not pass. This was important to getting the legislators to take a stand on the vote.
🤗 On the hearing day, we had over 50 people from our coalition come together and build relationships while they did floor pulls, and we wrote almost 100 cards to legislators telling our own stories of why we need state action for the housing issues we face.
🗣️ Our volunteers worked to engage local city councils and mayors over the last month. For Local Legislative Meetings we held 4 prep trainings, and 14 actions were taken by leaders to engage 6 council members. For speaking at suburban City Council meetings, we had a large response with 20 volunteers responding & signing up to speak at 14 cities.
📝 We had 8 volunteers write Letters to the Editor in April and some got published and turned into blogs!
